Postcode Sector Boundary Improvements

Earlier this year we provided an update on the Postcode Sector Boundary product and delivered an insight into the product innovation underway at Geoplan. We are now in a position to provide further detail concerning the quality of the product, the key benefits, and the planned release timetable.

Geoplan collaborated with Cranfield University to commission the creation of the product in response to an increasing demand for granular, local and street level analysis. In addition, we were driven by the desire to use our proven expertise, innovative nature and commitment to continuous improvement, to produce a new industry standard dataset.

This definitive product represents a total upgrade in terms of the coverage with 100% of the UK improved to 1m accuracy (where possible).

The product is now accurate to 1:15,000 scale and suitable for use with all street level mapping. This comprehensive match to street level geography, combined with the historical value associated with the current dataset, has resulted in a first class product.

The product is digitised rather than tessellated and the location of the boundaries have been improved and are now more accurate than ever before.

Our new premium product will deliver the following benefits;

  • The dataset offers a highly accurate solution to the issue of effective resource deployment and reduction in waste. This issue is not new, however the cost implications and consequences have never been greater than they are in the current climate, irrespective of the industry. The increase in accuracy and quality of the boundaries dramatically reduces the margin for error and provides the user with a greater degree of precision.
  • For cartographic purposes where aesthetic appearance is required, the dataset delivers a real competitive advantage and highly professional output.
  • Where street level analysis is required, there has never been a more accurate Postcode Sector Boundary solution. This granular and innovative solution is unrivalled and stands to make a real commercial difference to users.

Following an industrious few months, we are pleased to confirm that the product will be nearing completion by mid-February 2012. A thorough testing period will ensue and we remain on track to launch during Summer 2012.

Customers of existing data products will be contacted and invited to upgrade and we would welcome any queries or questions in the meantime. To find out more, please contact Geoplan on 01423 569538 or email to sales@geoplan.com.
