A sense of style
Geoplan has introduced new curved street labels into all of our software products along with the upcoming R50 data release, to enhance existing functionality in our products, and specifically to:
- Allow more control over the way labels display on the map.
- Improve the look of labels by making them follow the curve of a line.
- Allow curved labels for any arc/polyline feature, such as streets, railroads, ferry lines, and rivers.
Why is label styling important?
The typical features depicted on a geographic map are line features (such as roads and streets), area features (postcode boundaries, forests, lakes, etc.), and point features (villages, cities, etc.). In addition to depicting the map's features in a geographically accurate manner, it is of critical importance to place the names that identify these features in a way that the reader knows instantly which name describes which feature.
Geoplan has introduced curved labels into our products to improve the appearance of the map and to ensure that the information it contains is communicated in the most accurate manner possible.
This will not only improve the appearance and accuracy of each map, but also allow user greater control over the appearance of their maps
