Filtering Catchments

Step One

Filter  a Catchment layer - To filter your own data, Open an existing project and then My Data, click on the layer you wish to filter.

Step Two

Select all Catchments - To filter your data you need to firstly make sure that all Catchments are selected. Open the Select section of the panel and click on the All button if this is not currently selected. 

Step Three

Open the filter tool - Within the layer editor panel select Data, from here you can control the data associated with your Catchments, expand the Filter selection panel. 

Step Four

Apply a filter - To apply a filter to your Catchments layer based on a column within you data choose the following:   

Column - select the column you wish to filter from the first dropdown box.      

Operation - select the type of filter operation you wish to apply. The operation options you   have vary depending on the data type of the column that you have selected.      

Value - Enter a value to base your filter on. If your column is character you can start to type the first few letters of the required filter and then select an option from the dropdown list. If your column is numeric you can use the slider to select a value or type a value into the text box. If your column is a date, a calendar will be displayed when you click in the value box so that you can select a date.      

Click Apply once you have created your filter, then the map and the data view will automatically update. To check the features that match the filter criteria open the Data View by clicking on the data grid button at the bottom left of the map.       

Step Five

Create additional filters - You can add up to 5 filter criteria by pressing the + button and selecting an AND or OR operator from the dropdown box to combine the filters. Press Apply to apply the filter and show the results in the data view and on the map. To remove a filter line press the button. To clear the filter so that all records are selected again, press the Clear button.       

Step Six

Filter layer indicator - If you press the Project arrow to return to the Project Panel, and open the My Data section, there will be a Filter icon next to any layer that has a filter applied to it. This is a useful reminder if you save your project and open it at a later date. 

Calculating a new data column

Step One

Edit a layer - To edit your own data, Open an existing project and then select My Data, click on the layer you wish to edit. 

Step Two

Select all Catchments - Before a data column can be added to a layer, all Catchments in the layer must be selected. To check this, open the Select section of the panel and make sure that the All button is selected. 

Step Three

View data columns - Within the layer editor panel select Data, from here you can control how the data is displayed in the Data View, then select Columns to display a list of all the data columns that are currently available in your layer. 

Step Four

Add a new data column - To add a new data column, click on the + button (underneath the list of columns). A warning message will be displayed to let you know that the layer will automatically be saved if you add a new column. Choose Yes to continue.  

Step Five

Name the new data column - To name your new data column, open the Name section and type a name in the box. 

Step Six

Choose a data type - You can choose from several different data types by opening the Data Type section and selecting the required type from the dropdown list. 

Step Seven

Change the data format - Depending on which data type you have chosen, you may find a Format section which will allow you to specify how you want your data to be formatted. Change the formatting if required. 

Step Eight

Build the data expression - To build your data expression, open the Expression section, select the type of calculation from the dropdown list and then use the dropdown boxes to create the expression for your new data column. The types of expressions you can choose from are:      

Simple Calculations – Allows you to add, subtract, multiply or divide existing columns in your layer

Aggregation Calculations – Allows you to calculate the Sum, Average, Variance or Standard Deviation .of an existing column in your layer.      

Cartographic Calculations – Allows you to calculate the X/Y co-ordinates of each feature, and for areas, the surface area in square kilometres, miles, metres or yards.      

Percentage Calculations - Allows you to identify a percentage value of an existing column in your layer.       

Press Calculate to add the new calculated column to your layer. 

Step Nine

View your new data column - To look at the new data column, open the Data View by clicking on the data grid icon (bottom left of map). Your new column will appear after the existing data columns in your layer. 

Editing Catchments data

Step One

Select a Catchments layer - To edit your own data, Open an existing project and then select My Data. Click on the layer you wish to change. 

Step Two

Select all Catchments - To edit data columns you need to firstly make sure that all Catchments are selected. Open the Select section of the panel and click on the All button if this is not currently selected. 

Step Three

Select the Columns panel - Within the layer editor panel select Data, from here you can control the data associated with your catchments, expand the Columns selection panel.       

Step Four

Change which columns are displayed - You can control the columns that are displayed in the Data View by ticking/un-ticking the boxes next to each column name.       

You can delete a column by clicking the X. A message will be displayed warning you that the layer will automatically be saved if you make this change, select Yes when asked ‘Do you wish to continue with this change?’. Some columns, like the ID, cannot be deleted.      

You can add a column by clicking the + button found at the bottom right of the Columns panel.       

Step Five

Edit the data column 

To edit a column, click on the column name and select Yes when asked ‘Do you wish to continue with this change?’. The panel will update to show the Column Configuration Panel. You can change the name of the column by clicking in the name box and typing.      

You can change the Data Type of the column by selecting from the dropdown box.      

For numeric columns, you can set the data Format, e.g. the number of decimal places or special formats such as time or date.      

You can also populate a column using an Expression to automatically generate the values. You can select an expression type from the first dropdown box and then use the other dropdown boxes to build or edit your calculation. For more information, refer to Catchments Steps - Calculate New Column. Click Calculate to update the expression.     

TIP: To look at the updated data column, open the Data View by clicking on the data grid icon (bottom left of map). 

Copy Catchment records to another layer

Step One

Select Catchments layer - To copy data from one layer to another, Open an existing project and then My Data, click on the layer you wish to change. 

Step Two

Open the data grid - Expand the data grid from the bottom of the map, so that you can see the data that you wish to copy. 

Step Three

Select and copy records - Select all of the rows that you want to copy using the tick boxes in each row. Alternatively you can use the buttons to the right of the data grid panel to select all or none using the de/select all buttons. When you have selected the rows you want to copy, click the copy button within the data grid

Step Four

Select target layer - Once you have clicked the copy layer button you can then choose the target layer to copy the records to. Choose from the target layer drop down, then click the tick to confirm the action. 

Step Five

Save and Copy - Once you have clicked Confirm, you will be presented with a notification box, click Save & Copy to complete the process. You will now have a new layer with your copied records and associated Catchments in. 

Attaching content

Step One

Open an existing layer - To add content to your layer, Open an existing project and then select My Data, before clicking on the layer you wish to edit. 

Step Two

Select a single Catchment - Within the layer editor panel click under Select, choose the Catch option and from the drop down menu select the catchment you wish to add content to. 

Step Three

Choose the content - Once you have selected the Catchment to add the content to, expand the Attachable Content panel. From here you can choose the content to add. 

Step Four

Add the content to the Catchment - To add text descriptions, webpage addresses or email addresses, type in the appropriate box, To add images, videos or documents, click on the Choose file button and navigate to the appropriate file(s). 

Step Five

Bring up the content on the map - Once the content has been attached to the Catchment, press the Project arrow in the top left corner to return to the Project panel, and then navigate on the map using the pan button to the Catchment, and click on it. A content bubble will be displayed with the information you have added. Click on the links within the bubble to display the information in further detail.
